Strengthening Global Health and Implementing One Health Approach
The G20 Summit, held in New Delhi, India, on 9-10 September 2023, resulted in the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration, which underscores the commitment of G20 member nations to bolster global health and implement a One Health approach. Within this declaration, Point 28.VII explicitly recognizes the potential role of evidence-based Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) in advancing health. Furthermore, the G20 leaders acknowledged international efforts in this realm, including the establishment of global and collaborating centers by the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the significance of clinical trial registries.
Elaborating on the points mentioned in Point 28.VII
1.Recognizing the Potential Role: The G20 leaders acknowledge and appreciate the potential contribution of evidence-based Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) to health and well-being. This recognition signifies the value of integrating traditional healing practices alongside modern medicine, emphasizing a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to healthcare.
2.International Efforts: The G20 leaders specifically mention the establishment of global and collaborating centers by the World Health Organization (WHO) as part of international efforts in the field of Traditional and Complementary Medicine. These centers will serve as crucial platforms for research, knowledge exchange, and the development of evidence-based practices in traditional medicine. The G20 leaders commend the work conducted in this regard in advancing the understanding and utilization of traditional healing practices.
3.Clinical Trial Registries: Additionally, the G20 leaders highlight the importance of clinical trial registries in the context of Traditional and Complementary Medicine. These registries will play a crucial role in documenting and disseminating research findings related to traditional therapies, ensuring transparency, and facilitating evidence-based practices. By acknowledging the significance of clinical trial registries, the G20 leaders emphasize the need for rigorous scientific investigation and the generation of robust evidence in the field of traditional medicine.
