The Promise of Research and Collaboration
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences under the AYUSH Ministry, has initiated a call for proposals to set up the AYUSH -ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrative Health Research (AI-ACIHR) at AIIMS.
This effort aims to enhance integrative health research by combining AYUSH systems with conventional bio-medicine and modern technology to improve patient outcomes through innovative diagnostics, preventative measures, health promotion, and treatment methods.
The goal is to create a research environment that fosters mutual understanding between different medical systems, identify research priorities in integrative medicine, and develop integrative management protocols for priority diseases.
Embracing Tradition in a Modern World
Amid the increasing recognition of Ayurveda and integrative medicine, efforts are being made to integrate traditional medicine terms into the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). This move seeks to enhance global understanding and endorsement of Ayurveda, thereby facilitating research, documentation, and worldwide acknowledgment. Such integration is expected to expand insurance coverage, enhance portability, and boost medical tourism, ultimately making Ayurvedic treatments more accessible globally.
